Learn more about our work

The Guttmacher Institute advances sexual and reproductive health worldwide through an interrelated program of social science research, public education and policy analysis. For nearly four decades, Guttmacher has demonstrated that scientific evidence — when reliably collected and analyzed, compellingly presented and systematically disseminated — can make a difference in policies, programs and medical practice.

The Institute's work focuses on four key program areas, each with a set of goals, objectives and target audiences. Click on an area below to learn more.

KEY PROGRAM AREAS

Protecting the Next Generation: Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health

Highlights

At the 54th session of the United Nations Commission on the Status of Women, in March 2010, the Guttmacher Institute helped mark the 15th anniversary of the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action by hosting a discussion on the critical role that family planning access plays in improving women’s lives.

The discussion featured presentations by advocates working on the ground in Africa, Asia and Latin America. Guttmacher’s director of international research, Akinrinola Bankole gave a presentation on Guttmacher and UNFPA’s report Adding It Up: The Costs and Benefits of Investing in Family Planning and Maternal and Newborn Health, which documents the extensive gains that would result from increased investment in family planning and maternal and newborn health services.
